The neighborhood we've grown to love continues to change. Somewhere at the heart of the OMI (Oceanview, Merced, Ingleside) community there is a transit hub. It's the Balboa Park station. It's actually one of the busiest hubs in SF. But like so many things in our nieghborhood it was poorly planned. It's a huge disjoined network of Muni and BART tracks. Seriously, try taking a walk through this station and you'll see what I mean. What were they thinking? It's unattractive. No parking. There is plenty of wasted space. The area around it is in shambles. It looks junky/ghetto.
Sometimes, I think I'm attracted to the idea of getting into Urban Planning. I mean I want to get in on these meetings when people come up with a master plan of what will be the corridors of life for thousands. So, there is a plan to redesign the whole station. It's been in the works for quite some time, but feet are definitely dragging. I actually went to a couple of the meetings for community input, as did some of my friends. They took the input well. Let's see how it translates... :-)

I'm seeing life increasingly through a lens of my contribution toward goodness, life, and grace and then my efforts that take away from these things. I'm only one life, just like any of us. And I want my life to be given toward positive contributions of the whole. That's the way of Jesus of Nazareth, whom I'm patterning my life after. So it seems to me that being a citizen of the whole is a choice that you can't assume. And it's the path I've chosen to follow.
