I'm seeing life increasingly through a lens of my contribution toward goodness, life, and grace and then my efforts that take away from these things. I'm only one life, just like any of us. And I want my life to be given toward positive contributions of the whole. That's the way of Jesus of Nazareth, whom I'm patterning my life after. So it seems to me that being a citizen of the whole is a choice that you can't assume. And it's the path I've chosen to follow.

Sea Level Snow Balls!
It was unusually cold in SF today. As the temperatures dipped, we were all glad to stay in for the night. We sat at the dinner table chowin' Tony's Pizza with some crisp brocoli and swapping stories of the day. About that time we could hear that the sky started to pour. The sound of rocks pounding on the glass of the kitchen sky lights caught Jillian's attention. She walked over, looked up, and blurted, "It's hailing! Really hard!" We all rushed to door too catch a first hand glimpse. The hail stones were the size of tiny grapes. Our porch was covered within seconds. The street was a blanket of white. David said, "Can we go outside and play?" The next thing we knew we were having snow ball fights all over Melrose Ave. We gathered snow balls everywhere we could - from cars, porches, the street. The kids ran from one end of the street to the other. What a blast! It was amazing fun. For a few minutes SF was transformed into our own winter wonderland. Conor was the last one to come in. He wanted to soak in every second and nail dad with the last snowball. We had a window of about 25 minutes to experience our urban freeze. Soon the hail turned to rain and it all turned to slush. We jetted back into the house and gobbled our pizza after working up an appetite.
As I think about it now, it must have reminded Marcia of her childhood in Connecticut. She remembers it foundly. Aren't childhood memories grand? I think the good of a memory is that it's a snapshot of seizing a special moment. We're meant to take thousands and thousands of special moments. I probably miss too many to speak of, but I'm learning to appreciate the ones I catch.
