I work with some amazing people. It's a great joy to be part of a winning team. Fabian Bruzone is a significant part of our team. I love working with Fabian. He is an upbeat person, full of faith and trust. He's generous with his words and efforts.
Today we renewed a set of cabinets, stairs, and window trim. Early in the day as we surveyed what was to be done, Fabian said, "This job is like a vacation!" I have to push the pause button to let you know that we often renew wood floors or cabinets that are in pretty bad shape - I mean damaged wood from conditions of sun, moisture, pets, shoes... We have to really work to bring that kind of wood back to life. But, that's part of our job. So when Fabian saw these cabinets in relatively nice shape, he stated so purely, "This is a vacation." He said it with a big smile in all sincerety.
Those words really hit me hard. One of the values we hold dearly is JOY in our work. If it's not fun, we're missing something. When Fabian said those words, it were as though the heavens opened wide. I realized that he is full of joy in his work. He's like that every day. Even when problems arise on the job, solutions are to be found. Fabian is a pastor, who works with NHANCE. It's not his whole deal, but it's a great slice of his pie. Today, Pastor Fabian ministered to this guy. Thanks for enjoying your work. You inpired me to love what I do and why I do it!
I'm seeing life increasingly through a lens of my contribution toward goodness, life, and grace and then my efforts that take away from these things. I'm only one life, just like any of us. And I want my life to be given toward positive contributions of the whole. That's the way of Jesus of Nazareth, whom I'm patterning my life after. So it seems to me that being a citizen of the whole is a choice that you can't assume. And it's the path I've chosen to follow.
